In regards to the question about what kind of shoe the cumulus is:
I'm familiar with the Cumulus 11 and 12. The Asics Gel-Cumulus is a netural running shoe. It's part of the higher-end of Asics shoes so there's more built into it. The biggest difference you will notice is the cushioning. There's noticeably added cushioning below the ball of the foot/toe area. The shoe is built with the IGS system, which is basically a fancy way of saying that the shoe is built to keep the runner in a normal gait pattern when running. The heel is a PHF or "Personalized Heel Fit" heel. It will feel very tight around that area at first but it will form.
This shoe is good for neutral feet. Because of the way the medial unit (the plastic mid-foot unit) pinches in towards the heel this is not a great shoe for over-pronators if you're not wearing arch support with it. If you supponate (roll out) this would be a good choice because the cushioning will provide some give to allow your foot to finish the gait cycle more naturally. There is no built in arch support.
